Physicians working in surgical clinics and medicine of nurses of nurse collaboration effect on the tendency to make errors

This research was conducted in a descriptive type to determine the effect of cooperation between physicians and nurses working in surgical clinics on the tendency of nurses to make medical errors. The research was carried out with 130 surgical nurses and 40 surgeons working at Yozgat Bozok University Research and Application Center between September-March 2020-2021 (n:170). Introductory Characteristics Information Form, Jefferson Physician and Nurse Professional Collaboration Scale and Malpractice Tendency Scale were used to collect data. In the analysis of the data, the findings were transferred to the IBM SPSS V23 Windows computer program and appropriate statistical analyzes were performed. A p value of <0.05 was accepted for the significance level of statistical tests. In the evaluation of the data, two independent samples t test, Mann-Whitney U test, one-way analysis of variance, Duncan test, Kruskal Wallis test, Pearson regression analysis correlation coefficient were used. In the study, when the HHIS score averages of physicians and nurses were examined; the mean score of nurses was 52.20 ± 5.80, and the mean score of physicians was 50.70 ± 4.60 (p= 0.112). The results of our study show that the area with high medical error tendencies in nurses is "falls" (23.80 ± 2.00). It was determined that there was a statistically significant, negative and weak correlation between the year of study and the hospital infections score (p=0.015). It was determined that as the nurses' HHI scores increased, their scores on the Malpractice Tendency Scale also increased, that is, as the cooperation increased, the tendency to malpractice decreased. This result obtained in our study reveals that the doctor-nurse relationship being positive has an effect on reducing the tendency for medical errors in nurses. Errors that may arise without conflicts can be prevented by making the right planning. For this reason, the existence of a healthy and effective cooperation system between physicians and nurses in surgical units is important in preventing medical errors.
