The purpose of this in vitro study was to evaluate the effects of three different surface treatments, two luting cements and thermocycling on the shear bond strength between PEEK and indirect composite. A total of 240 disc-shaped PEEK specimens were randomly divided into four groups according to surface treatment methods: no-treatment (control), sandblasting with 110 µm particle Al2O3, 98% sulfuric acid etching, Er:YAG laser irradiation. The surface roughness was measured with Atomic Force Microscope. Each group was divided into two subgroups according to the luting cements: a temporary cement (TempBond NE) and a resin cement (RelyX U200). After the bonding between PEEK and an indirect composite material (Gradia) was completed, all subgroups were further divided into two subgroups according to whether thermocycling was applied or not (n=15). Shear bond strength was measured, and the failure modes evaluated. The data were statistically analyzed using a Three-Way ANOVA and Bonferroni adjustments for multiple comparisons. The sandblasting group demonstrated the highest surface roughness values (p=0.000). A higher level of shear bond strength was observed in the samples luted with RelyX U200 (6.871-25.134 MPa) compared to TempBond NE (1.958-6.772 MPa) (p=0.000). Thermocycling caused a decrease in shear bond strength in all groups (p=0.000). The most frequent failure mode was adhesive failure. The highest roughness on the PEEK surface was obtained by the sandblasting method. RelyX U200 cement provided superior bond strength compared to TempBond NE. The highest mean shear bond strengths were observed for sandblasted surfaces, followed by laser-irradiated, sulfuric acid etched, and untreated PEEK surfaces luted with RelyX U200.
