Right to reply and rectification and new dimensions

The 21st century which is named as communication age, mass media candamage people and effect themself respect and also broadcast unreal newsabout people. The most significant mechanism that protects the liberty of thepress and information and the human rights from this type of issues is the rightto reply and rectification with its stabilizing peculiarity. The right to reply andrectification makes a contribution to maintaining in the same standards bysetting a bar against the abuse of the liberty of press; furthermore, it enables theperson who has come to harm to reply by taking advantages of the same mediaand opportunities.In the first chapter of the research, it has been touched on the content byemphasizing short history of the right to reply and rectification, its beingfundamental right, its significance and its parties; in the second chapter, it hasbeen touched on the use of the right to reply and rectification in the internationaldocuments. In the third chapter, in each mass media respectively, thearrangements about Turkish Positive Law regarding the right to reply andrectification and alternative methods about the right to reply and Rectificationand also the necessities by the light of some problems discussed have beenstated. In the fourth chapter, the right to reply and rectification has been taken inhand in respect of the Acquis Communautaire of the European Union.In this study, the arrangements made in the adaptation process to theEuropean Unity have been analyzed and legal arrangements about the right toreply and rectification in Turkey have been touched on by emphasizing theReply and Rectification notions. In the study, in addition to International Treaties,it is aimed to offer solution and suggestions by evaluating the problemsexperienced in the usage process of the right to reply and rectification anddeveloping alternative methods for the use of the said right.
