An analysing of Cevdet Kudret Solok and Ferit Edgu's novels within the frame of ideal teacher concept

In this study, teacher characters were examined using document analysis, which is a qualitative research method, in the selected novels (Classmates, No Clouds in the Air, You Know the Ant; Nobody, A Season in Hakkâri / He) of Cevdet Kudret Solok and Ferit Edgu who were formerly teachers. It was aimed to determine the professional competencies and inadequacies of the teachers as a result of the descriptive analysis made by considering the General Competencies of the Teaching Profession published by the Ministry of National Education. In the study, ideal teacher characteristics, teacher types, student profiles, educational understanding and problems of the period were addressed. While determining the documents and scope of the research, it was paid attention to use the works of the authors who have been least researched in the literature. It has been tried to define how the concept of teacher is handled by educational writers and how it is presented to the reader through the selected works. As a result of the study, it was observed that the teachers whose professional inadequacies were reached mostly violated the Attitude and Values standards. The authors wanted to present two different types of teachers to their readers so that the professionally inadequate teachers in the novels can have ideal teacher characteristics. In addition, it was determined that the teachers who were found to be professionally inadequate were insufficient in the fields of Professional Skills and Professional Knowledge. In addition, it has been found that ideal teachers in the novels have some characteristics in three competence areas: Professional Knowledge, Professional Skills and, Attitude and Values. Authoritarian, stereotyping, free, passive, ambiguous and democratic teacher types are also included in the novels. Especially with the democratic teacher type, both the professional and personal characteristics of ideal teaching have been embodied.
