Abstract (EN)

Environmental officers are part of the environmental control mechanism. Therefore, it is a professional group that is expected to lead the society in environmental attitudes and behaviors. In this study, it was examined whether the 'Awareness of Environmental Problems' and 'Environmental Attitudes' of environmental officers working in environmental consultancy firms based in Ankara differ depending on gender, age, monthly income, professional service period and educational status. Survey model, one of the descriptive research methods, was used. The data obtained were evaluated with the SPSS 23.0 (Statistical Package for Social Sciences) package program. It was concluded that the participants could not adequately transfer or transform their environmental thinking into environmental behavior. According to the gender variable, the scores of the environmental thinking subscale differed statistically significantly. This difference was found to be in favor of women. However, it has been observed that the length of service is an effective variable on the environmental attitude. It has been observed that awareness increased through education may not be a sufficient factor for behavior change. This is one of the remarkable results of the study. In addition, this study also showed us that the awareness of the participants that "human activities are the main cause of environmental problems" is low.
