The study of reliability and validity of the motivation toward the environment scale on preschool teacher candidates (Sample of Ankara city)

The aim of this study consists of doing the study of validity and reliability of "Motivation Toward the Environment Scale" on preschool teacher candidates developed by Pelletier at al.(1998) and consists of analysing in terms of some variables. The study is important to identify the kinds of motivation toward environment of teacher candidates and so advising the adults by the help of the scale.The universe of the research is the 3rd and 4th class students of Preschool Education Departments of Faculties of Education of State and Foundation Universities in Ankara in 2008-2009 Term. As a result of the analyses of reliability and validity, a scale form composed of 24 items and 6 factors, appropriate to the original form of the scale. Total variance rate which is explained in the scale is found as %74,61 and Cronbach coefficient is found as .87 after working. The analyses were conducted by using the programme SPSS 15,0.While there is not any meaningful difference among the scores of ?Introjected Regulation and Intrinsic Regulation? dimension of the Motivation Toward the Environment Scale due to class level of respondent teacher candidates [t(305) = 1.34; p>.05], [t(305) = 1.73; p>.05] there are meaningful differences in all of other sub-dimensions.According to the educational level of mother of the teacher candidates participated in the research, the difference is significant in "Intrinsic Motivation" dimension of the Motivation Toward Environment Scale[F(3, 286) = 3.38; p .05]. There is no significant difference among the groups in sub dimension of Motivation Toward Environment Scale according to the educational level of father of the teacher candidates.According to the situation that the teacher candidates take courses toward environment; there is a significant difference between the scores of the "Integrated Regulation [t(305) =2.62; p<.01]" dimension and " Introjected Regulation[t(305) =2.34; p<.05]" dimension of Motivation Toward Environment ScaleAccording to the situation that the teacher candidates attend the seminars about environment, it is concluded that there is a significant difference among" Intrinsic Motivation[t(304) =3.93; p<.01]; "Integrated Regulation [t(304) =3.63; p<.01]? and "Identified Regulation [t(304) =2.55;p<.01] dimensions of Motivation toward Environment Scale.
