Cevri's Selim-nâme (Analysis-text)

Cevrî İbrâhîm Çelebi, one of the important poets of the 17th century. Upon the request of Ali Bey, who is the butler of Rûz-nâmeci İbrâhîm Efendi, he rewrote the Selim-nâme written by Şükrî-i Bitlisî. Cevrî İbrâhîm Çelebi criticized Şükrî-i Bitlisî's use of an old-fashioned language and made corrections in this work, which gave the work a unique identity. This work is one of the most outstanding sort of the Selim-nâme. This study consists of an introductory and three parts. In the introductory part, the definition of the Selim-nâme has been mentioned and a few examples of this type of poetry have been given. In the first part, the life and works of Şükrî-i Bitlisî are given, and in the second part, the life and works of Cevrî are mentioned. In the last part, Cevrî's Selim-nâme was evaluated in terms of style and content and compared with its old version. Finally, the transmitted text which was registered in the National Library of Ali Emiri Manzum in 1310 is mentioned.
