Title of thesis: Traditional media usage patterns of convicts and detainees in prison (Sakarya L Type Closed Penal Institution example)

In this study, the use of traditional media by detainees and convicts in prison was investigated. The aim of the study is to determine the use of traditional media by prisoners and convicts in prison. The limited number of studies on the subject in the literature increases the importance of this study. The study is a quantitative study, designed and implemented in the general survey model. The universe of the research consists of the detainees and convicts in the Ferizli L Type closed penal institution in the province of Sakarya. The sample consists of 100 participants, 50 women and 50 men in the universe. The data collection tool used in the research was created by the author as a result of the literature review. The data collection tool consists of 2 parts. In the first part, there is a demographic information form with 6 questions. In the second part, there are 13 questions created to determine the participants' habits of using traditional media tools. In this study, frequency and percentage values for categorical variables were calculated and reported. All analyzes were done with SPSS 23 program. At the end of the research, it was determined that 46% of the participants watch TV 4-7 hours a day and 36% watch TV 1-3 hours a day. When the distribution of the broadcasts watched by the participants in the daytime is examined, it has been determined that 59% watch the news bulletin, 28% watch the TV series and 20% watch the competition. When the distribution of the types of broadcasts watched in the night zone is examined, it was determined that 52% watched TV series, 37% watched news bulletins and 19% watched discussion programs. A significant proportion of the participants think that traditional media tools benefit them in many ways. On the other hand, the rate of users for personal development and being aware of the agenda was also found to be high. It is seen that the radio is the most preferred mass communication tool.
