This study aims to investigate climate change – security nexus by reviewing different approaches to environmental security debate and examine the ongoing transformation of climate change from a development issue to a security issue in the world politics. In this sense, study argues that climate change is evaluated by two different security perspectives; human security and traditional security. Main objective of the study is to reveal how and why a global climate change, which used to be evaluated as a threat for human security, is associated with traditional security notions and evaluated as a national security problem. Study discovers that since 1990s human security perspective was prominent within the global climate change regime. Therefore, climate change was mainly framed as a development issue which tackled by economic, financial and commercial measures. While within the last decade impacts of climate change started to be associated with traditional security notions which shifted to focus to national and international security implications of climate change. This perspective enhanced the attention of security and military actors towards climate change and triggered treatment of climate change as a security issue at the same time. So study argues that this distinction between human security and traditional security perspectives in face of impacts of climate change provides a brief explanation for the transformation of the subject from a development issue to a security issue.
