Abstract (EN)
The main goal of the present study was to extract the prostatic acid phosphatase (PAP) from the serum of patients with benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) disease and healthy males. The study was carried on by investigating the activity of extracted and purified PAP along with the levels of prostate-specific antigen (PSA), testosterone, glutathione peroxidase (GPx), urea and creatinine. The study was included 100 men, half of them were diagnosed with BPH and the other half were healthy to control the study. The age and body mass index (BMI) of BPH patients were non-significantly (P>0.05) different compared to healthy control. PAP was successfully extracted from the serum by using a column chromatography, and the results have indicated a significant (P<0.05) elevated activity of PAP in the serum of BPH men compared to control. The levels of PSA and testosterone were significantly (P<0.05) higher in the serum of BPH men compared to control, while the level of GPx was significantly (P<0.05) reduced. Pearson's correlation has indicated a negative association between PSA and testosterone, and a positive association between PAP and age in BPH men. In conclusion, in BPH the activity of PAP is increased in the circulation and can be considered as sensitive marker for the prognosis.
