The themes of multiculturalism and otherness in Chris Cleave?s Little Bee

The aim of this study is examining the effects of ?otherness? treatment the immigrants exposed to and concept of multiculturalism, a matter of fact discussed within the frame of social harmony following the migrations which are the natural results of post-colonial term, in the context of Chris Cleave?s Little Bee. For this purpose, the emergence of multicultiralism and its definitions from different perspectives are studied. The concept of ?otherness? is examined in terms of its meaning and effects as well.In this study, England and Nigeria, where the events are took place, are shortly defined as colonizing and colonized countries, then all these aspects are hold again in the context of the work. On the one hand the life style and sensitive mentality of an English woman running about in the depressing pace of the modern life, on the other hand the experiences of a little Nigerian girl running from her colonized country, sheltering to England and being obliged to struggle many negative events an immigrant may encounter are examined separately. Many concepts being discussed widely today like multiculturalism, postcolonialism, otherness, migration, modern life, postmodernism are defined with the samples from the work.
