Abstract (EN)

This study was undertaken in the Chyrysa city located in Gülpinar town of Ayvacık cityin West Anatolia. The sediment overlain archaeological site was divided into three sub classesand a total of 9 sample was collected fort he determination of the origin of the sediment byarchaeometric approach. Physical, chemical, pedological and archaeometric analyses utilizedrevealed that the sediment was transported in an accelerated process and B and C layers wereimmediately covered by the layer A. This accelerated transportation and covering is inaccordance with the previous findings of the land degradation in Anatolia in 100 BC and 500AC. Finally, results revealed that, the events which resulted the loss of the importance of thethe ancient Chyrysa town is still valid at various sites can cause similar results to importantsettlement sites unless sustainable land management approaches are undertaken.
