Narrative structure in Cihan Aktaş stories

Cihan Aktaş, who published her first story book in 1991, is a prolific writer who has contributed a lot to modern Turkish story writing for the following years. In addition to her story books, the author has also published research-review books and novels and twelve published short story books1 have been the basis of this study. The factors that constitute the narrative structures of the stories and the function referred to these factors, the methods and techniques used are quite rich. The author has her own unique and innovative attitudes that force the stereotype rules in building this skeleton. The series of events described in the stories and the people selected are from the daily life. However, the author seems to consider the reflections of the events on the individual and inner thoughts rather than the event and the outside world. In this respect, Cihan Aktas is the narrator of individuals rather than the situation or event. The author's approach to the characters as well as mainstream of issues and her method of realization are the formal attitudes which have been quite echoeing in the recent Turkish narrative. It is also possible to encounter long stories in the author's complete works that mostly consist of short stories. In our study, the author's one hundred and seventeen stories; who narrates stories (narrators and perspectives), whose stories were narrated, how the story characters were created, the reflection of environment and place, use of time, narrative techniques, the author's narrative preferences and colloquial features, rhythmic factors and the dimension of narration that reaches to an end with gathering all these were examined.
