Investigation of aggression level and problem solving skills of field hockey athletes

Field hockey is one of the rapidly developing sports branches today. The increasing interest in field hockey has led to a significant increase in the number of athletes. Although there are many studies examining the athletes and their behaviors, the studies examining the behaviors of the athletes in the field hockey branch, where the number of athletes are increasing day by day, are quite limited. For this reason, it is thought that a study examining the aggression level and problem-solving skills of field hockey players will contribute to the literature. In this direction, the aim of this study is to examine the aggression level and problem solving skills of field hockey players. According to the activity program of the Turkish Hockey Federation, 202 licensed and volunteer field hockey players who compete in the Super League, 1st League and 2nd League levels participated in this study. Of the participating athletes, 114 are male and 88 are female athletes. Problem Solving Inventory and Aggression Scale were applied to the athletes participating in the research in order to collect data. As a result of the research, it was observed that while the age of the field hockey athletes increased, their problem solving levels decreased, while their aggression behaviors increased. According to the gender variables of field hockey players, it is determined that problem solving skills and aggression behaviors do not differ statistically significantly. According to the education level variable, which is another variable, according to the results obtained, it is seen that as the education level increases, problem solving skills decrease, while the problem solving skills of the athletes with low education level are higher. It is determined that there is a weak, statistically significant, negative relationship between the total score obtained from the problem solving skill inventory and the total score obtained from the aggression level scale.
