The importance of local services in ensuring gender equality: The case of Ankara Metropolitan Municipality

The aim of this research is to determine the importance of local services in ensuring gender equality. In the study, the case of Ankara Metropolitan Municipality is examined. In line with the aim of the study, the study is carried out through the semi-structured interview technique, which is one of the qualitative research methods. In this context, the study included open-ended and closed-ended questions that would provide details so as to deepen the interview. 11 people who continue to work in Ankara Metropolitan Municipality participated in the research. As a result of the research, it is seen that all of the participants stated that gender discrimination existed. The most important reason for this is seen as "patriarchy". Participants also consider gender-sensitive discourses and policies as "insincere" and "top-down". According to the participants, the most important practice of the government in the past was the adoption of the Istanbul Convention. According to the participants, ABB's (Ankara Metropolitan Municipality) practices against gender discrimination are in the form of "supporting women's employment / education", "local equality action plan", "personnel-oriented trainings" and "local health trainings".sonra doldurulacaktır.
