The reflection of cartoon-supported in-class discussions on the lesson plans preparations of the pre-service classroom teachers (According to the 5E model)

In the age we live in, it is seen that it is important to produce knowledge and moreover to solve the problems encountered in daily life or learning environments, rather than acquiring it ready-made. At this point, it is very important to use materials that will facilitate the learning of students by reaching more than one sense organ, together with the use of student-centered approaches and models that enable the creation of knowledge by the individual. In this direction, it was aimed to determine the reflection of cartoon-supported in-class discussions on the lesson plans preparations of the pre-service classroom teachers according to the 5E model. In the research, case (case study) design, which is one of the qualitative research methods, was used. The study group of the research consists of 11 pre-service teachers who are studying in the 3rd and 4th grades of Kastamonu University, Faculty of Education, Department of Basic Education, Classroom Education Department in the spring semester of the 2020-2021 academic year. Lesson plans and semi-structured interview forms were used as data collection tools in the research. As a result of the research, most of the pre-service teachers showed improvement in their lesson plans with the effect of cartoon-supported in-class discussions. However, they stated that they got used to preparing lesson plans over time and they did not have difficulty with the effect of cartoon-supported in-class discussions. The pre-service teachers stated that there was information they learned under the influence of cartoon-supported in-class discussions, that they used the examples they gave in the discussion in their lesson plans, and that they solved their problems by trying to make a lesson plan like the ones done in the relevant stages of the cartoon. In addition, pre-service teachers said that cartoons can be used in lessons and that values and skills can be taught to students. Other than that, pre-service teachers who stated that the use of cartoons could have negative effects also stated that they can be done to prevent negative effects.
