The effect of cartoons on character education of children

It is known that cartoons, which are one of the artistic genres children first met in their lives, affect them multifaceted. For this reason it is necessary to investigate the effects of the cartoons messages on the character development and character education of children. In this study, the effects of cartoons on the character development of children who study at the second grade of primary education were investigated. In the scope of the research the cartoons watched by children were determined. The determined cartoons were tried to detected how it affects the child's development. How and in what way a child in the second grade of primary school was affected by cartoons was evaluated. In this study, survey and interview methods were used. The first sample of the study consisted of 697 students who were randomly selected from 7 different primary schools in the central district of Giresun province. The second sample of the study consisted of 25 parents whose children are studying in the 5th grade. Quantitative data of the study were analyzed with SPSS 20.0.0 program and the data obtained from interview forms were analyzed with content analysis method. According to the findings, it was found that cartoons affected positively the children as well as the negative ones. It was determined that the students were emotionally affected by cartoons and they learned information. Based on this finding, it is concluded that children supply their social, entertainment and imaginary needs due to age and period conditions by cartoons.
