Opinions of teachers of religious culture and ethics about the role of cartoons in religious education: The case of Sivas and Kars

In our research, Religious culture and Ethics teachers opinions on cartoons were examined. In this context, how religion is used in cartoon films, contribution to the individual's religious development and the opportunities in the teaching of religion cartoons have been tried to be presented with the views of teachers. In this context, our sample is limited to 200 religious culture and ethics teachers who continue their duties in Sivas and Kars. With the renewal of the primary education programs, the students who take religious culture and ethics courses have developed a new understanding of the basic skills, values to be acquired, and the scale to be developed by the teachers based on the transfer of the concepts to be acquired with cartoons. According to the results of the research, teachers stated that cartoon films provide support for a lasting and fun learning that addresses multiple senses in the religious education process. Teachers stated that cartoons are important in supporting knowledge, skills and values related to religious culture and ethics course content. In addition, teachers emphasized the importance of effective use of cartoons within the scope of religious culture and ethics course. However, subliniminal messages in the content of cartoons have revealed that superstitions adversely affect religious education activities. Based on these findings, various suggestions were introduced for teachers, schools, families and media organizations in order to make use of cartoons in religious education.
