Investigation of fisheryand some biological parameters of Clarias gariepinusburchell, 1822 (North African catfish)in Asi river

The aim of this study is to reveal the fishery and some biological characteristics of Clarias gariepinus in the Asi River. In this context, this study was conducted in two stages between December 2018 and March 2019 in the Asi River in Hatay. In the first stage, a questionnaire was conducted face-to-face with fishermen, retailers and consumers. In the second stage, monthly fish sampling was done with traps (N=185).The female-male ratio was calculated as 1:1.06. Total length between 20.47 cm and 62.46 cm. The b-values in the height-weight relationship were calculated as 2.98 and 2.83 for female and male respectively and isometric growth was determined. The age of the samples were ranged from 1 to 4. von Bertalanffy growth parameters were estimated as L∞=58.5 cm, K=0.51 1/year, t0= -0.11 for females and L∞=68.3 cm, K=0.35 1/year, t0= -0.23 year for males. As a result of this study it can be said that control and research activities on commercial fishing activities in this region are not sufficient at the expected level.
