Abstract (EN)

This study includes technical analysis of the contemporary period composer Claude Debussy's, cello and piano sonata composed during World War I. The first chapter of this study contains information about Debussy's life, musical education, and the composers he has worked with, and who had an influence on him. While evaluating Debussy's work, it's imperative to consider the characteristics of the art movements of his era and their relationships with Debussy. Therefore, the art movements of impressionism and symbolism, which are commonly mentioned with regards to Debussy's work, and Debussy's connections with these movements are included in the study. In the second part, C. Debussy's cello and piano sonata is analyzed in terms of cello technique and and musical aspects. This is the first study done in its context within the graduate or doctorate programs in Turkey. In addition, the Turkish sources related to the subject are also very limited. The goal of this study is to provide a valuable Turkish resource for the future work and analysis on the celebrated composer. Keywords: Debussy, Cello, Piano, Sonata
