The Impact of television in the socialization of the children

SUMMARY The survey has been made amongst the students who live in Üsküdar and Şişli, in Istanbul and who are in the second grade of primary at private and public schools that have various socio economic and socio cultural neighbourhoods In this survey, the impact of television channels that are broadcasting in ar canny has been searched on children. How does TV affect physical, mental and emotional development of children in late teens. What are the advantages and disadvantages of TV? What function do students think TV has? Which programs do they watch, who do they choose as examples? Do what they learn from TV and what they learn from school and family contrast? Does the education of the parents affect the relationship of the child with TV? What is the effect of TV in child's socialization? Our survey has originated from the hypothesis mat TV has a negative impact on children and it alienates them from their national, moral, sentimental and cultural values and that it affects their emotional development in adolescence which is an important period in respect of the formantion of their personality negatively. The results have shown mat children consider TV as a means of entertainment and source of information. It has been understood that children like Turkish films, series and pop music most and they very often watch it at weekends. Also, it has been revealed mat children don't like pornography on TV. According TV children, the families they see on TV more indulgent, the schools are more democratic and the way they wear is much freer. In recognizing what is right or wrong, the children have emphasized that they believe in their families most and that they will chose popular jobs in the future. Our survey has confirmed that TV affects children negatively, presents negative examples, causes contradictions between different generations, destroys and leaves negative effects on their socialization.
