Abstract (EN)

Objective: The study aims to determine the validity and reliability of the Turkish version of the "Development and Psychometric Evaluation of a Caregiver Survey to Assess Family-Centered Care in the Emergency Department" scale developed by Rosenthal and colleagues (2023). Method: This study is a methodological cross-sectional research. The data were collected from Tokat Gaziosmanpaşa University Training and Research Hospital and Tokat Zile State Hospital after obtaining ethics committee approval and institutional permission. The sample group consists of 360 primary caregivers who met the study criteria and agreed to participate, bringing their children to the emergency department. The data were collected by the researcher between October 10, 2023, and May 1, 2024, using the Primary Caregiver Information Form and the Turkish Version of the Family-Centered Care Assessment Survey in Pediatric Emergency Departments. For data analysis, IBM SPSS (Statistical Package for Social Sciences) version 23.0 and IBM AMOS (Analysis of Moment Structures) version 23.0 statistical programs were used. The distribution of the data was analyzed using Kolmogorov-Smirnov, Skewness, and Kurtosis tests. Findings: The translation-back translation technique was preferred to ensure language equivalence of the scale. Content validity was achieved using the Davis technique and the content validity index (CVI). The content validity ratios (CVR) of the scale ranged from 0.81 to 1.00, and the CVI value was calculated as 0.95. Exploratory Factor Analysis (EFA) and Confirmatory Factor Analysis (CFA) were performed to test the construct validity of the scale. The fit adequacy of the CFA model was evaluated using the maximum likelihood method and indices such as χ²/DF (Chi-square/Degrees of Freedom), RMSEA (Root Mean Square Error of Approximation), SRMR (Standardized Root Mean Square Residual), NFI (Normed Fit Index), AGFI (Adjusted Goodness of Fit Index), CFI (Comparative Fit Index), and GFI (Goodness of Fit Index). The EFA results indicated that factor loadings ranged from 0.597 to 0.783, and the variance analysis was 48.82%. To assess reliability, Cronbach's alpha coefficient, split-half test, item analysis, and item discrimination index were used. The Cronbach's alpha reliability coefficient of the scale was calculated as 0.897, the communication/interaction dimension as 0.855, and the medical care decision-making dimension as 0.817. Additionally, the correlation coefficients of the equivalent halves were found to be 0.92 for Spearman-Brown and 0.91 for Guttman Split-Half. Spearman-Brown correlation coefficient >0.70 and Guttman Split-Half correlation coefficient >0.70 indicate high reliability between the split halves. Therefore, the reliability of the scale was found to be at an acceptable level in this study. Conclusion: The Turkish version of the Family-Centered Care Assessment Survey in Pediatric Emergency Departments was found to be valid and reliable. It is recommended to be used in future research.
