A study on Sulhi Dölek and his works in our child literature

In our country, child literature which has begun in Tanzimad period ( The political reforms period in 1839 and the time following in Ottoman Empire.) mostly by translating books has gained a momentum in Republican period, especially by the end of 1990s it has opened the doors to the world?s new developments and approaches. Despite being behind compared to those in European countries, the number of books in our country which deal with child reality, child psychology, and child development period features have increased. In addition to the authors who only write for child literature, there are authors of other fields who want to make use of their knowledge in this field as well. Sulhi Dölek whose works vary is one of them. He has four child novels, three child story books consist of twenty-one stories, and a book consist of twenty-nine poems. In these works of Sulhi Dölek theme of education and humor take place in various dimensions. He makes effort of writing for kids to make them meet the humorous atmosphere in small ages. In his works a great deal of importance is given on the function of education and entertainment of child literature works. In the works which fiction to be based on love aim to gain readers the values such as helpfulness sharing, wholeness, unity, respect to effort, industriousness, honesty, respect to elderly, devotion, superiority of science, animal, and nature love. Child problems and childhood-adulthood situations are striking matters in the author?s works. With the power of observation and success of creating images, it has been addressed impressively to children?s attention and imagination in these peculiar matters. The author who aims the children get acquainted with life has shown care not to get out of reality of life. The most comprehensive part of the study forms the examining of child literature measures and child development period features in Sulhi Dölek?s child books.
