Education of value in children's literature: Ümit Kaftancıoğlu example

Abstract (EN)

The aim of this study is to determine the values that Ümit Kaftancıoğlu handled in children's books. In this study, the following questions has been answered: What values did Ümit Kaftancıoğlu take for children's books and how did he incorporate these values into his texts? Five of the ten children's books written by Ümit Kaftancıoğlu are novels, four of them are fairy tales and the other one is a saga. The values in these books are determined according to the Schwartz's Value Classification Scale. This scale consists of ten main values: Power, achievement, hedonism, stimulation, self-direction, universalism, benevolence, tradition, conformity, security. At the end of the research, the sub value of benevolence from the values of Schwartz's were found mostly in the ten children's books of Ümit Kaftancıoğlu. The most common sub value is cooperation. The less common value in these books is tradition. According to the findings, it has been concluded that Ümit Kaftancıoğlu can be taught in schools as a resource in the context of values education of children's books.
