Özet (EN)

Intelligence tests are applied for various reasons, including identification (such as mental improvement, learning disabilities, other cognitive disorders, giftedness) and clinical evaluation of cognition. The aim of our study is to examine the relationships between intelligence level, parenting style and sociodemographic factors. Among 595 patients who underwent psychometric tests, 135 patients whose parents were contacted and whose PARI scale could be applied were included in the study. WISC-R test in 26 (19.3%) patients, MCHAT test in 15 (11.1%), ODKL test in 35 (25.9%), GOODENOUGH and PORTEUS tests in 42 (31.1%) and AGTE 64 (47.4%) had been done. 83 (61.5%) of the cases were male, 52 (38.5%) were female, and the female / male ratio was found to be 0.62. The average age was 81.74 ± 3.92 months. It was observed that as the number of siblings increased, the pressure and discipline dimension (factor 5) scores of PARI also increased statistically (p = 0.049, r = 0.574). As the pre-school education period of the children increased, it was seen that the scores of the PARI Excessive Motherhood dimension (Factor 1), Housewife rejection dimension (Factor 3) and Wife-Husband conflict dimension (Factor 4) decreased, this was statistically significant (respectively p = 0.032, p = 0.022, p = 0.038 and r = 0.185, r = 0.197, r = 0.179). Mild developmental delay was found more in AGTE in children who did not receive foreign language education (p = 0.010). When we evaluated the PARI results and WISC-R results, it was found that the WISC-R test results changed positively as the excessive motherhood dimension (Factor 1) scores decreased. Parenthood can be considered as a set of behaviors aimed at supporting the child and enabling to reach his developmental potential. Positive parenting can give the child high functionality in the necessary interpersonal relationships and other areas of his life. Effective parenting, even in high-risk families, is a key component that reduces the effects of all risk factors, preserving the child's functionality and enabling resilient children to be raised.
