Abstract (EN)

Purpose: In this study, it was aimed to determine inconveniences and results of early marriages, reasons behind them, while examining early marriage phase of child brides and opinions and ideas about preventing them. Material and Method: The research has been done with 100 children under 18 years old, either formally or religiously married, who has applied to Ege University Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology in the city of Izmir. Data has been collected by the interview form prepared by the researchers, at the end of research collected data has been entered to the computer by using SPSS for Windows. Related statistical analyses subject to created question sentences has been done. Finding: In the context of child brides' early marriage processes and examining opinions and ideas about preventing early marriages, it has been studied to understand reasons for subject of early marriage through children's view, marriage phase, results and what solution suggestions are. In this sense, findings about following obtained: life experiences of early married children in the marriage phase, female child's choice and decision process in the patriarchal society order, education, marriage expectancies and reception situations. Result: As well as patriarchal standards of judgement and communal gender roles, lack of education, poverty, immigration, religious faiths, traditional practices also have influence upon early marriages. As we see child brides are tightly coupled with the idea of early age marriage is the normal one, early marriages that become a tradition do not raise questions and problems they created are also ignored.
