Investigation of the relationship between the attitudes of parents with awareness levels of secondary school students about children rights

In this study, the relationship between parental attitudes towards children's rights and perceived levels of children's rights in terms of various variables was investigated. In this study, which was prepared to determine the relationship between the attitudes of parents towards children's rights and children's awareness of children's rights, relational screening model was used from general survey models of quantitative research methods. The sample of the study consists of 480 students, 10-14 years old students attending state schools of Ministry of National Education in Tusba, Ipekyolu and Edremit districts of Van province during the 2016-2017 academic year. Two different measure ment tools were used for the students and their parents. "Child Rights Scale" developed by Zöğ (2008) was used to determine students' awareness of children's rights. "Parent Child Rights Attitude Scale" developed by Yurtsever Kılıçgün (2009) was used to determine the attitudes of parents towards children's rights. As a result of the research, it is seen that children's rights level does not differ according to gender, parental education level and family income, while their parents differ significantly according to their marital status and the class variable they continue. In addition, parents' attitudes towards children's rights do not change according to parental age, education, occupation, income status and marital status. However, there is no statistically significant relationship between the children's rights awareness level of the students and the children's rights attitudes of parents. Therefore, a causal relationship between these two variables can not be mentioned.
