Policies to alleviate child poverty: Children in Turkey's social welfare policy

Increasing the welfare of the society and protecting the poor and the destitute people are among the objectives of social policy. The tools of social policy are social security system, social assistance, social services, social protection. In social policy, social assistance has been the savior of the political sphere. Problems of the poor and solutions to prevent poverty have found a place in the application of social policy. In this context, social assistance and social protection of children, who constitute the most disadvantaged part of the society, are realized according to the aims and objectives of the social state, is social policy practitioner. Within the framework of the social security system, social benefits and social services are complementary. In this study, social assistance to children in need is explained and social service aids have been mentioned. It has been examined place in child poverty, role in poverty reduction, effects and results of social assistance is being implemented in Turkey. In the first part of the study, poverty and its definitions, poverty approaches and the causes of poverty have been explained and try to understand what poverty is. In the second part, the concept of child, the importance of child poverty, the child labor caused by child poverty, the causes of child labor, the children in the street, the children pushed to crime and the children in need of protection and the places of these children in society have been explained. The rights of children and their applicability has been discussed. In the third chapter, the social assistance phenomenon and practices which are one of the policies aimed at reducing child poverty have been explained and the importance of social contributions to child poverty has been evaluated. In the thesis, using the literature studies involving the subject and statistical data of the related institutions and electronic media screening method were used.
