Analysis of Cartoon Network cartoons in the context of philosophy for children (p4c)

The purpose of this research is to examine Cartoon Network cartoons in the context of philosophy for children (P4C). The research was designed as a qualitative case study. Five episodes of Gumball, Ben 10 and Kral Şakir cartoons, which have the highest viewing rates on the official Youtube account of Cartoon Network Turkey, have been analyzed with the method of discourse analysis. In the evaluation of the research data, the themes of thinking independently from the aims of philosophy for children (P4C), being a good citizen, self-improvement, developing language and discussion skills, conceptualizing philosophy as well as developing critical and creative thinking skills determined by UNESCO (2007) were used. In addition, the historical development of cartoons and philosophy for children (P4C) approach is presented within the scope of the research. According to the results of the research, there are gender discrimination, senility, doctor-patient, teacher-student, environment, work, Apollonian-Dionysiac, anti-foreign discourses in Gumball, Ben 10 and Kral Şakir cartoons. Visual elements in cartoons can be used as teaching materials in philosophy (P4C) activities for children. Auditory elements are generally in harmony with the context to accompany the visuals. As a result, it is seen that the examined cartoons are suitable for use in philosophy for children (P4C) activities.
