Examining the relationship between internet addiction and aggressive behavior in children

Humanity is developing and advancing through the Internet. From this situation, the Internet can be expressed as a medium that can serve an infinite number of purposes such as learning, research, communication, education, shopping. Human life becomes easier through the possibilities provided by the Internet. In addition, a more diverse, rich, and developing life is possible. However, the popularity of the Internet and the increased frequency of use have led to the appearance of clinical cases that come with abuse symptoms. The aim of this study is to examine the relationship between internet addiction and aggressive behavior in children. Within the context of this purpose, a questionnaire was carried out with 200 secondary school students. To measure Internet addiction, a five-point Likert-type Internet Addiction Scale (IAS) consisting of 35 items, and a five-point Likert-type Buss-Perry Aggression Scale (BPAS) consisting of 29 items were utilized to measure aggression. In addition, a 17-item demographic survey was utilized to attain demographic datas developed by the researcher. As a result of the study, it was concluded that female students' withdrawal levels on internet addiction were higher than male students, while their physical aggression levels were lower than male students. In addition, internet addiction levels of 6th-grade students were observed to be higher than students in other classes. In addition, students who regularly engage in activities outside of school have been found to have lower levels of internet addiction and aggression and hostility.
