The effects of perceived perantal attitudes of the children on the his/her smoking perception

Abstract (EN)

Objective: The purpose of this study was to examine the effect on children's parental attitudes towards perceptions of smoking.Method: This study was performed the three primary school in Izmir Province National Education Directorate that selected randomly by three socio-economic status: Bornova Kars Halil Atilla, Esentepe ve Menderes Gazi ilköğretim okulu. Data were collected from 100 children in Kars Halil Atilla, 83 children from Esentepe and 67 children from Menderes Gazi primary school. Total sample was consist of 250 children from 6, 7 and 8 grade.Results: 117 children of 250 were boy and 133 children of 250 were girl. Girls and boys age mean respectively were 13.1 + 0.98 and 13.3 + 0.88. 13.6 % of families has low incame, 79.4% of them middle and 7.0% of them high incame. 30.1% of mother and 53.6 % of father were smoking. 15.0% of the students close friends were smoking. There was statistically significant difference among the Desicional Balance Scale Pros means score according to parent attitudes (F=3.172, p= .025). There wasn?t statistically significant difference among the Desicional Balance Scale Cons means score according to parent attitudes (p= .698).Conclusion: Parental attitudes affects the children smoking pros perception, did not affect perceptions of cons.Key words: Smoking pros and cons, parent attitudes, desicional balance scale, adolescent, smoking.
