Abstract (EN)

This study examines the mediating role of self-compassion in the relationship between childhood abuse and psychological resilience. Childhood abuse cases have the capacity to affect individuals' quality of life, psychological well-being and self-compassionate behavioural patterns in later life. Moreover, high levels of self-compassion may lead to higher than expected psychological resilience in the face of such incidents. This mediating role is examined in this study. In order to examine this, a quantitative method was preferred and a total of 484 people were reached. The unit of analysis of the study is individuals over the age of 18. There was no spatial limitation in the research. Data were collected through Google Drive, one of the online platforms. As data collection tools; i) demographic information form, ii) Childhood Traumas Scale, iii) Psychological Resilience Scale, iv) Self-Compassion Scale were used. The data obtained were analysed using SPSS.25 and LISREL.8.51 programmes. Frequency, percentage, arithmetic mean and standard deviation were used to determine the distribution of the sample. Cronbach' s Alpha, the internal consistency coefficient, was calculated to determine the reliability of the scales used in the study. Descriptive analysis results such as arithmetic mean, standard deviation, skewness and kurtosis were used to determine the distribution of the scales. Two-stage approach from structural equation modelling was used to test the mediation effect. In order to check the significance of the mediation effect, bootstrap analysis was performed with 5000 sample calibration in SPSS programme with PROCESS v4.1 Andrew F. Hayes macro. As a result of the study, it was determined that self-compassion had a mediating role in the relationship between childhood abuse experience and psychological flexibility. Finally, the results obtained from the research were discussed together with the studies in the literature. Suggestions for possible future research are given.
