Abstract (EN)

This thesis aims to see the relationship between childhood traumas (CT), ruminative thinking style and hopelessness level in addition to demographic information such as age, sex and if they have a psychiatric diagnosis. Also if there is a mediation role of ruminative thinking style between the relationship of CT and hopelessness. Sample was collected from people who have a childhood trauma and who lives in İstanbul and who are in between 18-65 years old adults according to WHO (World Health Organization).Thesis also studied the relationship between demographic factors with variables. These demographic factors include age, sex, if they have a psychiatric diagnosis and what their diagnosis is. Study's scales are Childhood Trauma Questionnaire, Ruminative Thought Style Questionnaire, Beck Hopelessness Scale and Demographic Questionnaire. Thesis was studied to make a contribution to literature and to use in clinical environment to help clients. Study was based on voluntariness, sample was collected with convenience sampling method and answers were collected online from the participants. From the answers people who are under the lower bound from Childhood Traumas Questionnaire are taken out from the study with 101 women, 101 men totally 202 people who are over the lower bound statistical studies started. Remaining participants' age average is 36,4. For the statistical study SPSS and AMOS 24 program was used. 4 hypotheses were created according to goal of the study. The first one is 'positive and significant relationship between CT and hopelessness'. To test this hypothesis Spearman Correlation Analysis was used and hypothesis was mostly supported. Second hypothesis is 'the positive and significant relationship between CT and ruminative thinking style'. To test the hypothesis Spearman Correlation Analysis was used and the hypothesis was supported. Third hypothesis is 'the positive and significant relationship between ruminative thinking style and hopelessness'. To test this hypothesis Spearman Correlation Analysis was used and hypothesis was supported. Last hypothesis was created for the main purpose of the study. Hypothesis is 'to see the mediation role of ruminative thinking style on CT and hopelessness'. To test the last hypothesis AMOS 24 program's Bootstrap 1000 was used. With the statistical analyses hypotheses were mostly supported. In addition to those hypotheses nine research questions were created. These research questions were created to examine the relationships of variables with demographic information. Spearman Correlation Test, Independent T-Test and Mann Whitney U Test were used for statistical tests of research questions. The limitations of the study are the scales are generally carried online, participants don't know what the psychiatric diagnosis is and the number of participants in the types of CT and hopelessness levels is not evenly distributed.
