Decoupling control of multivariable system: An application of a process control system

In recent years, especially in chemical industry, control techniquies of multiple variables have been gaining an inreasing importance. In industrial systems, due to using systems which have more than one input and output, various problems are encountered in the application control of such systems. This kind of systems are called as "Multi Input Multi Output (MIMO) Systems". Negatively affected one of system output from the other outputs or inputs which are connected to the other outputs is one of these problems. This negative effects can be on the inputs due to outputs as well as on the outputs due to worth stressing safety, product quality and efficiency requirements in industry. Therefore, analyzing and decoupling of Input-Output interactions on MIMO systems have importance. Because of these reasons, interactions on MIMO systems have become an important research area. In this study, firstly, interactions of Inputs Outputs on MIMO systems have been analyzed. In experiments, FESTO Didactic Company MPS-PA Compact Workstation training test-bed have been used. Normally this experimental set have Single Input Single Output (SISO) with four seperate unique loop control system. It has been configurated as to be two input two output (TITO) system. Experimental data has been imported from Input output interactions of constructed system and transfer function parameters of system have been estimated with MATLAB. Decoupling controller design has been made using transfer functions and decoupled system has been tested on SIMULINK. Designed controller also has been constructed on LabVIEW and decoupling system also has been tested experimentally. When results have been compared with each other, decoupling control application which gives a successful result on simulation, gives also satisfactory result as experimentally in real system.
