Abstract (EN)

Fluorescent lamps are important place in lighting systems because of their more efficient than incandescent lamps. Drive circuits for these lamps are built by electronic ballast circuits with 2-level inverter to run higher efficient and more economical. In this study, an electronic ballast circuit with cascade multilevel inverter, to obtain low distortion voltage, is proposed to drive the fluorescent lamp. With proposed inverter circuit, 5-level waveform was obtained with two H-bridge inverter connected in series to each other. For control of the inverter, Sinusoidal Pulse Width Modulation (SPWM) technique is used.Simulation studies were carried out by means of MATLAB/Simulink environment for 50Hz and 32 kHz operating frequencies for testing the validity of the proposed circuit. The results show that fluorescent lamp driven a single-phase 5-level cascade inverter is pulled current with very low harmonic without power factor conditioner. Keywords: Electronic Ballast, Sinusoidal PWM Technique, Fluorescent Lamp, Total Harmonic Distortion (THD)
