ABSTRACT PhD. THESIS STATIC AND DYNAMIC ANALYSIS OF MULTI-BAY COUPLED SHEAR WALLS Murat BİKÇE DEPARTMENT OF CIVIL ENGINEERING INSTITUTE OF NATURAL AND APPLIED SCIENCES UNIVERSITY OF ÇUKUROVA Supervisor: Prof. Dr. Orhan AKSO?AN Year: 2002, Pages: 206 Jury : Prof. Dr. Orhan AKSO?AN : Prof. Dr. Erhan KIRAL : Prof. Dr. Çetin YILMAZ : Prof. Dr. Vebil YILDIRIM : Assoc. Prof. Dr. H. Murat ARSLAN In this study, static and dynamic analyses have been carried out for multi-bay coupled shear walls on elastic foundations, with finite number of stiffening beams, the properties of the connecting beams varying from span to span and/or from region to region in the vertical direction. Continuous connection method (CCM) has been employed to find the stiffness matrix of the system. For this purpose, the connecting beams have been replaced by an equivalent layered medium and unit horizontal forces have been applied in the directions of the degrees of freedom to find the displacements of the system corresponding to each of them. The system mass matrix has been found in the form of lumped masses at the hights where the unit forces have been applied. Following the free vibration analysis, uncoupled stiffness, damping and mass matrices have been found employing the mode superposition method. A time- history analysis has been carried out using Newmark numerical integration method to find the system displacement vector for every time step. Finally, two computer programs have been prepared in the MATHEMATICA programming language for static and dynamic analyses with which some examples are solved in the ninth section. The results obtained have been compared with those of SAP2000 structural analysis program and PAFEC finite element program and a good match has been observed. Key Words : Multi-bay Coupled Shear Wall, Continuous Connection Method, Stiffening Beam, Newmark Method, Earthquake Analysis. II
