Abstract (EN)

As well as other courses, textbooks are the biggest helpers of educators and students in science and technology classes. It is very important for the abstract concept to be able to present these abstract concept in a way that is appropriate for the students with abstract concepts, easy and fast access and economical. The appropriateness of the level and the information of the students when they are prepared ensures that the textbooks are enriched by using the visual materials to support the content of the spiral and the information in the concent. Modal representation, such as pictures, photographs, graphics, diagrams and mathematical expressions are examples. While there are various studies on some units that contain writing activities and modal resresentations related to multi-modal representations with a large contribution to the enrichment of textbooks, a study on the distribution of modal representations in physics and biology subjects in 5, 6, 7 and 8th grade science and technology textbooks was not it meet. The aim of this study is to analyze the distribution of physics and biology subjects in science and technology textbooks of 5, 6, 7 and 8th grade in the use of multimodal representation. This research bordered by the physics and biology topics in the 5, 6, 7 and 8th grade Science and Technology textbooks taught by the Ministry of National Education (MNE) in 2014-2015 academic year at the secondary schools in Alanya province of Antalya. Since the modal representations of physics and biology subjects differ in each class in Sciencce and Technology textbooks used as data collection tools in the research process, a seperate code list is prepared for each class and each mode used and the modal description in the book are coded by this code. Microsoft Office Excel 2007 was used in the analysis of the data obtained in research. As a result, it has been determined that there are differences in the distributions of multimodal representations according to physics and biology subjects in Science and Technology textbooks of 5, 6, 7 and 8th grades and modes used vary.
