Özet (TR)

Disinfection of wastewater which is the last step of treatment is one of the most important step in wastewater treatment. Till recent years, both drinking water treatment and wastewater treatment, chlorination is most the most important disinfection method but it is determined that chlorination causes harmful effects both human and environment health and from this causes increasing of investigations and improving about alternative and environment-friendly disinfection methods. Ultraviolet (UV) disinfection is one of the widespread of these alternative and environment-friendly disinfection methods With in this thesis, comparison of chlorination with sodium hypochlorite and UV process was investigated with some parameters. Both processes were compared with parameters BOD, COD, pH, AOX. The effluent water from domestic wastewater treatment plant was applied to chlorination and UV process. When BOD and COD removal rates were investigated, it was seen that the performance of both disinfection systems were almost same. When pH values were investigated it was seen that pH values in chlorination with sodium hypochlorite increased but pH values in UV process did not change significantly. The important difference between two processes could be seen at parameter Adsorbable Organic Halogens (AOX). In chlorination with sodium hypochlorite process AOX values increase too much but in UV process there was no increase in AOX values. As a result of study it can be said that UV disinfection is more environment-friendly process than chlorination with sodium hypochlorite Keywords: UV, chlorinization, adsorbable organic halogens, domestic wastewater.
