According to Hegel Ego cannot exist as an abstract substance independent of the world. It becomes what it is through its relation to the other, to the world. Hegel thinks of the Ego as something that can be itself only through mediation with another which is different than itself. The voyage that is told in the Phenomenology of Spirit is the voyage of consciousness? becoming substance. In Hegel?s system nothing can declare its existence without mediation. For, totality is not a totality that is constituted of the parts, rather it is the totality of the relations between the parts. Each part has a representation of the totality; totality shows its different aspects in each of these parts. Desire and recognition are important concepts since they are the mediation of relations which are necessary for the emergence of this totality. They are types of relations that are the mediation of the self-certainty of consciousness, thus they are the conditions of consciousness? being a self-consciousness. In this thesis the conditions of the transition from desire to the desire of recognition in hegelian system is discussed.
