Currently considered as a `country with economy in transition?, Georgia was liberated in 1991, upon the dissolution of the Soviet Union. At the time of its liberation, Georgia was in a state of chaos. After having spent 70 years as isolated from the global system along with other USSR countries, Georgia had to face tumultuous structural issues due to the transition experienced from a planned economy to a liberal market economy; its economy underwent a state of total break down. Correspondingly, the Tbilisi government had two significant objectives to achieve: to accelerate the transition to a market economy in order to overcome the economic crisis and in this direction, to ensure that the country becomes an active part of the global economy.This thesis is based upon the hypothesis suggesting that the pace of post-communist Georgia?s transition process from a planned economy to a market economy is significantly dependent on the international economy (commercial relationships and foreign investments), due to its geographical location (corridor function), its place within the global economy (the importance it has in regional projects for energy and logistics), and the scarcity of its natural resources (as the economy being mainly hinged upon agriculture). The main objective of the research is, to take a closer look on Georgia?s regional position as based on current conditions with respect to international conjuncture, and to consider the country?s internal dynamics as well.Keywords : Market Economy, Transition, Integration, Global Economy
