Abstract (EN)

Work and the place of work are important forces regarding masculinities, the power of men and the building of men. In other words, having a job is a primary source for the status, power and identity of men. This research aims to understand the process of constructing the male identity of shopkeepers on Kurtuluş Avenue. As work and workplace occupy a central place in the construction of masculine identity, our question is built around the role of "shopkeeper identity" in the construction of masculinity of these shopkeepers. We tried to find out if these shopkeepers that spend about 12 hours in their shops, were building another type of masculinity in this homosocial space.
