Abstract (EN)

Coasts and coastal systems are exposed to changes due to anthropogenic activities as well as natural processes in the current period. In this study, the change in the Coruh Delta coastline was investigated. The delta formed by the Coruh River, which originates within the borders of Turkey and empties into the Black Sea from Batumi in Georgia, is a transboundary river basin. The stream is currently pouring into the sea from a point very close to an underwater canyon. The delta is exposed to some anthropogenic effects as well as changes in natural environment conditions. Mining activities carried out in the river bed and dams and Hydroelectric Power Plants (HES) built throughout the basin are among these activities. Remote Sensing (UA) and Geographic Information Systems (GIS) supported analyzes and calculations were made to determine the Coruh Delta coastline change. In this study, Landsat 7 ETM and Landsat 4-5 TM satellite images of 1984, 2000 and 2020 were used. Coastlines were created by NDWI (Normalized Difference Water Index) analysis from satellite images. The change in the shoreline was investigated numerically using DSAS (Digital Shoreline Analysis System). Coastline changes in the study area were determined by making NSM (Net Shoreline Movement), LRR (Linear Regression Rate) and LR2 (R-squared of linear regression) calculations. The findings of the study revealed that the coastline regression and the coastline advance occur together at different speeds in the two coastlines to the right and left of the river mouth.
