Metal candlesticks in Çorum Museum

Metal candlesticks are among the works that have an important place in Turkish-Islamic Art. Candlesticks in metal art, which reached its peak in the Ottoman Period, as well as bearing traces of previous traditions, the artists of the period also developed their own unique forms. The elegance of Ottoman art is also reflected in the metal candlesticks. Candlesticks were not only used for lighting, but also had symbolic meanings. Candlesticks are also important in terms of reflecting the Ottoman foundation tradition. In this study, firstly, general information about metal candlesticks is given and the usage areas of candlesticks, candlestick culture in divine religions and the areas where candlestick depiction is used in Turkish- Islamic arts are explained. The materials, construction techniques and ornamentation features used in candlesticks in mining art were mentioned. The metal candlesticks in Çorum Museum, which is the main subject of the thesis, were cataloged and examined in detail with their material, technique, ornamentation and stylistic features. General information about these artifacts from the museum was given and the narrative was supported with photographs and drawings. The candlesticks were also measured and described in detail. The place and importance of the works in Turkish-Islamic metal art were tried to be determined, and comparisons were made with examples in different museums and collections, and dating was made.
