Antimicrobial activity investigation of Cotinus coggygria

Abstract (EN)
In this study,antibacterial proporties of Cotinus coggygria extracts (acetone, methanol, ethanol, distilled water,chloroform, petroleum ether) obtained from leaves of plants was investigated. It has been known that this plant is used as againist inflammatory, against diarrhea and pimples, inflammation.It was considered to whether the extract obtained from the leaves of this plant has antibacterial effect on seven bacteria strains in vitro. The bacteria strains used in this study are Staphylococcus epidermidis ATCC 12228, Staphylococcus aureus ATCC 29213, Escherichia coli ATCC 25922, Bacillus subtilis ATCC 6633, Salmonella typhimurium ATCC 14028, Enterococcus faecalis ATCC 29212, Pseudomonas aeruginosa ATCC 9027.The leaves of the plant were dried and then pestled until they are powderized. The extracts were prepared after vaporization of different solvents using the Rotary evaporator. It was observed whether the extracts were potent or not by using discs that were soaked in extracts for the agar diffusion tests.Acetone, methanol, ethanol and distilled water indicated good inhibation effect, whereas chloroform and petroleum extracts of C.coggygria had bad activity against test bacteries.
