Investigation of post-traumatic stress disorder, secondary traumatic stress and depression levels of health workers working in Covid-19 pandemic clinics

The aim of this study is to determine the post-traumatic stress, secondary traumatic stress and depression levels of healthcare professionals working in COVID-19 pandemic clinics and to examine the changes in post-traumatic stress, secondary traumatıc stress, depression levels of healthcare professionals according to some sociodemographic characteristics. In this context, in accordance with the purpose of the research, a survey was conducted with 410 healthcare professionals who took active roles in 3 different healthcare institutions serving pandemic patients in Diyarbakır. Sociodemographic information form prepared by the researcher, Secondary Traumatic Stress Scale, Beck Depression Inventory and Post Traumatic Stress Disorder Checklist (PCL-5) for DSM-5 were used as data collection tools in the study. T test, one-way ANOVA and TukeyHSD tests were used to determine the research findings. The mean age of the health workers participating in the research is 30.72±6.28. Participants Post Traumatic Stress Disorder Checklist (PCL-5), Secondary Traumatic Stress Scale, and Beck Depression Inventory mean scores were calculated as 37.61±17.61, 48.64±14.29, and 17.90±10.16, respectively. A statistically significant correlation was found between the secondary traumatic stress levels of the participants and the beck depression levels, with moderate strength in the same direction. A statistically significant correlation was found between the participants' post-traumatic stress levels and beck depression levels, with moderate strength in the same direction. There was a statistically significant relationship between the post-traumatic stress levels of the participants and the secondary traumatic stress levels, with moderate strength in the same direction. According to the results obtained, it was determined that the participants showed moderate depression symptoms and high-level secondary traumatic stress symptoms. It was determined that healthcare professionals working in pandemic clinics got an average of 37.61±17.61 points from the Post Traumatic Stress Disorder Checklist, and their PTSD levels were below the cut-off score of 48.
