Investigation of the relationship between intolerance of uncertainty and patience levels of nurses during the COVİD-19 pandemic process

In this study, it was aimed to examine the relationship between intolerance of uncertainty and patience levels of nurses during the COVID-19 pandemic process and to determine the factors affecting intolerance and patience levels of uncertainty. This is a descriptive cross-sectional study conducted with 120 nurses working at SBÜ Bursa Yüksek İhtisas Training and Research Hospital Main Building, Gynecology and Pediatrics Building and Heart Center Buildings between January and March 2022. The data of the study were collected by using the "Demographic Information Form", "Intolerance of Uncertainty Scale" and "Patience Scale". In the evaluation of the data obtained from the research; Descriptive statistics, t-test, one- way analysis of variance, Bonferroni test and Pearson correlation analysis were performed using SPSS 23.0 (Statistical Package for Social Science. According to the research findings; Nurses' Intolerance of Uncertainty Scale mean total score was 36,55±8,38, and the Patience Scale total score mean was 37,08±7,45. When the total scores of the intolerance of uncertainty and patience scale and its sub-dimensions were compared according to age, gender, education level, years of work in the profession, shift order during the COVID-19 pandemic, and working status in the COVID-19 service (emergency-intensive care-clinic), no statistically significant difference was found (p>0.05). A statistically significant correlation was found between the total score of the intolerance of uncertainty scale and the total score of the patience scale at a weak level in the opposite direction (r=- 0,287; p=0,001). The prospective anxiety score of single nurses was found to be higher than the married ones (p=0,049). As a result; It was determined that there was a statistically significant relationship between the total score of the intolerance of uncertainty scale and the total score of the patience scale, and that nurses with a high intolerance of uncertainty score had a low patience score.
