The effect of the COVID-19 pandemic on financial performance: A BIST application on the sectors transportation-storage and hotel- restaurant

The covid-19 pandemic has rapidly spread and affected humanity all over the world. During this period, within the scope of the measures taken to prevent the spread of the pandemic, businesses either temporarily or completely terminated their activities and even employees were dismissed. This situation has created a threat to the sectors economically. Transportation and storage and hotels and restaurants sectors were among the sectors affected by the pandemic, especially after the introduction of curfews and domestic and international travel bans. In this study, 2019, 2020, 2021 periods of 6 companies belonging to the transportation and storage sector and 7 companies belonging to the hotels and restaurants sector traded in Borsa Istanbul (BIST) were examined with ratio analysis and TOPSIS method, whether the covid-19 pandemic affected the financial performances has been investigated. As a result of the study, it was revealed that the pandemic negatively affected the financial performance both the transportation and storage and the hotels and restaurants sectors.
