The investigation of predictors of couple burnout and perception of marital adjustment among married individuals in the COVID-19 epidemic process

This research aims to reveal that how married people predict demographic information (gender, marriage duration, number of children, education status, working status), the effect of Covid-19 on marriage, conflict resolution styles (avoiding, compromising, collaborating, accommodating, competing), the big-five personality traits (extraversion, agreeableness, responsibility, neuroticism, opennes) and Self-Compassions. Furthermore, it is aimed to examine the state of the rapport between married individuals and their partners before the Covid-19 epidemic, the effect of the epidemic process on the rapport between couples, and the factors which are considered important in the rapport between couples. The study group of the research consists of married individuals for at least 2 years living in Kocaeli and Istanbul in the period of June-December 2021. Data were analyzed by hierarchical regression and contect analysis. As a result of the research, it was found that the number of children being two to three or more, being a university graduate, the perception that the Covid-19 process negatively affects marriage, extroversion, responsibility, emotional stability, self-understanding were significant predictors of spouse burnout, but conflict resolution styles did not have a significant effect on predicting spouse burnout. It is stated that the participants' adjustment with their spouses was "better" before the Covid-19 epidemic process. It has been observed that the perception of the Covid-19 epidemic process to affect marriage consists of the themes of "positive", "did not affect" and "negative", and the majority of them are in the theme of "negative influence". The most important factors in marital adjustment were identified as love, respect, personality and communication.
