Abstract (EN)
The aim of the current study was to investigate the effect of Solution-Focused Brief Counseling on the self-confidence level of adolescents. Participants of the study were selected among 9th, 10th, and 11th students attend to high school affiliated to National Education Ministery. Self-Confidence Scale was administered to participants during 2014-2015 academic year. After filling out the scale, the scores that were taken via pretest measurement of Self-Confidence Scale were seperated 3 groups according to students who have low, medium and high self-confidence levels. Then, convenience sampling was used in the selection of students who get low level self-confidence point and students who get medium level self-confidence point were randomly appointed to one of the experimental and control groups. Thus, study was carried out with a sample of 48 high school students (12 for experimental group and 12 for control group who have low self-confidence level and 12 for experimental group and 12 for control group who have medium self-confidence level). Adolescents in the experimental groups with low and medium self-confidence level took a 6-sessions Solution Focused Short-Term Group Counseling developed by the researcher. The participants in the control groups didn't receive any practise. The Self-Confidence Scale and a personal information form were used for collecting data from both experimental and control groups. The 2 (experimental and control groups) X 3 (pretest, posttest, follow up) research design was applied. The dependent variable of the current study was self-confidence scale points, and the independent variable was solution-focused brief therapy oriented group counseling. The scale was administered to both experimental and control groups, as the pretest 2 weeks before the sessions started, and as the posttest 2 weeks after the last session, and also it is used for the follow-up test for determining the permanence of the experimental manipulation, 2 months after the posttest. In order to determine the significant differences between the scores of the pretests, the posttests, and the follow-up tests of both groups, two way analysis of variance (ANOVA) with repeated measures was conducted. Data was analyzed with SPSS 17.0 Findings revealed that the solution-focused brief counseling increased the self-confidence levels of the both participants who have low and medium self-confidence levels in experimental groups and this was maintained on the follow up measurements. On the other hand, for the control groups, there were no significant difference between participants' Self-Confidence Scale scores of the pretest, posttest, and follow up measurements as expected.
