Turkish validation of CPE model leadership behaviour determination scale

Objective: The CPE Model Leadership behavior determination scale has been developed to have the subordinates evaluate their managers' leadership behavior in three dimensions; (Change, Production, Employee oriented leadership). The aim of this study is the validate of this Leadership Behavior Scale to Turkish. Method: This is a methodical study. First it has been translated from English to Turkish by two separate foreign language experts and the two translations have been compared to each other. Following the comparison, the conflicting sections have been evaluated and a single Turkish form has been created. Later on, it has been translated from Turkish to English by a third language expert and it has been compared to the original English form. The scale has been finalized at the end of evaluations. Data collection has been conducted at Dokuz Eylül University Application and Research Hospital and "Ozel Park Tip Merkezi" between 01.07.2017 and 31.08.2017. The sufficiency of sample size for factor analysis has been evaluated by the Kaiser-Meyer-Olkin (KMO) test and its suitability by the Barlett test. Explanatory factor analysis has been conducted to determine the scale's structural validity and verifying factor analysis has been done to test the validity of the determined dimensions. Reliability, Cronbach alfa, Cronbach alfa if item deleted, corrected item total correlation, success in differentiating item have been tested with intraclass corelation coefficient. The study has been realized upon approval by Dokuz Eylül University Research Ethics Committee. Findings: The scale has been applied to 443 participants in two health organizations, a private and a public one. While, there was no participant who did not complete more than half of the items, four participants who did not fill out more than seven items in total were not included in the factor analysis. The CPE Model Leadership Behavior Determination Scale's Cronbach's alpha value has been found higher than 0.90 and ICC values has been found higher than 0.70 in all three dimensions. Sample size has been found sufficient for factor analysis (KMO=0.97). The Turkish version of the CPE Model Leadership Behavior Determination Scale in the explanatory factor analysis has been defined with four factors whose eigen-value is larger than one and with total variance of % 64.7. In the confirmatory factor analysis the goodness of fit index values have been found to be; RMSEA: 0.88, RMR:0.070, SRMR:0.056, CFI: 0.98, NFI:0.97, NNFI: 0.98. Conclusion: According to the findings of this study, The Turkish version of the CPE Model Leadership Behavior Determination Scale is reliable and valid.
